Industry Framework

The electricity industry framework is provided by the Electric Utilities Act and supported by regulations and policies that define the roles of the Balancing Pool, the Alberta Electric System Operator (which acts as the Independent System Operator and maintains system reliability), the Alberta Utilities Commission (which adjudicates system operator rules, transmission applications, penalties and any other related market challenges), and the Market Surveillance Administrator (which provides the surveillance function and recommends penalties or fines to the AUC).
